Career coaching is about choosing, strategizing and navigating your career. Some examples include advice on a career change, a challenging boss or how to ask for a raise.
Interview coaching is different since it focuses on all aspects of a job search. For example:
- How to write a resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile
- How and where to find and pursue job openings
- Extensive interview practice so you feel prepared and confident
If you want an exciting, successful and satisfying career, and enjoy learning, then coaching can help you. But is it worth the expense right now?
The answer is yes if you are:
- working low-paying jobs for years on end while trying to figure out your career
- drifting from job to job without much enthusiasm
- no longer excited by the field you’re in but don’t know what else to do
- stuck in your job search and it’s affecting how you feel about yourself
- ambitious and your career isn’t moving forward as fast as you’d like
The most important thing to understand is that if you work with a career coach early in your career, it will fundamentally change your career trajectory. Later in life, a career coach can still help you, but you will have far fewer working years left to reap the rewards and feel the deep satisfaction of doing what you are meant to do.
A good match is everything in this kind of work, for both of us. For this reason, I offer a free, no-obligation, 30-minute consultation. This way, we can get to know each other a little before deciding. I will never suggest we work together if it doesn’t feel right for both of us.
Most career coaches have an HR, Counseling or Psychology background. I don’t have any of these. Instead, I’ve spent over 30 years sitting on the other side of the desk in STEM positions from Programmer to the Executive Suite. I have personally interviewed, hired and promoted the careers of thousands of young STEM employees and colleagues just like you.
What does this mean to you? It means I can share with you what a hiring manager listens and looks during an interview. I can also help you understand, from first-hand experience and observation, why individual careers skyrocket, plateau, or crash and burn.
I offer decades of hands-on experience. And I pick and choose from that wealth of background to deliver to you an experience completely customized to where you are at in your career.
Yes! With pleasure! In fact, this is one of the reasons why I offer a free, no-obligation consultation.
To begin, I like to understand your current situation so that I have a context for answering your questions. Then, if you like what you hear, we can talk about my services.
Next, we can start putting together a strategy. For many clients, my programs fit “as is.” But for others, straight coaching hours, or a program plus a few hours, is a more cost-effective approach.
I coach because I feel compelled to give back to the next generation. I am no longer motivated by money. So, when we come up with a strategy, I will always find a way to fit it into your schedule and budget.
You can use the online scheduler to create 30-, 60- and 90-minute appointments. When you sign up for a program, I will tell you at the end of each session how much time to schedule for the next one. Most sessions will last about 60 minutes. I don’t schedule sessions back-to-back so we have a little room to stop at a good breaking point rather than watch the clock.
The clock guides my Hourly Coaching service. Purchase as many or as few hours as you wish. Then, use your time bank at your discretion. Coaching hours never expire.
I like to use the telephone or Skype. Which one we rely on will depend a lot on our mutual geographic locations and the topic. For instance, it would be difficult to work on eye contact, handshakes and interview wardrobe without video!
Yes! In fact, I encourage evening and weekend appointments for clients who work during the week.
You can schedule appointments Wednesday – Friday evenings, Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. I offer more time slots than I typically fill. This way, you can just about always book an appointment within a day or two.
Yes! Your business travel should never get in the way of planning your career. Therefore, just let me know what you need and we will adapt our working schedule around your needs.
You will see results — huge shifts in thinking and depth of understanding — from every session, without exception. My programs deliver deep insights, new skills and strategic options to help you achieve your goals. You will also have the opportunity to practice what you learn each time we meet. Best of all, you will always be left with a lot to think about until the next session.
I too like to meet in person whenever possible. If I will be traveling to your area, I’ll always let you know well in advance. This way, we can make plans to meet in person. And if you prefer, we can always hold our sessions over Skype so we can see each other.
At some time or another, we all need to miss a session. When you use the Online Scheduler to make an appointment, you will receive a confirmation email. Save this email, as it contains links for canceling and rescheduling.
As a courtesy, please give me 24-hour notice whenever possible.
Yes, in many circumstances. The fees you pay to a career coach may be tax deductible. So speak to your tax accountant to find out if you are eligible.
The best program for you will depend on your unique situation. This is why I offer a free, 30-minute consultation. It gives us a chance to talk about what’s going on for you, without any obligation.
For example, are you applying for jobs but not hearing back? Getting interviews but no offers? Not very excited about any of the positions you’re applying for? Each of these problem areas requires a different kind of coaching.
I offer five programs, plus Hourly Coaching to fill the gaps. We can combine them however we need to come up with the most cost-effective and personalized solution for you.
Program durations are as follows.
My Resume and Other Writings is a 3-hour program delivered daily or weekly.
Effective Job Seeker is a 5-hour program. You can choose a weekly or biweekly pace. In addition, you will receive 30 days of post-program email and phone support.
Ace Every Interview is a 4-hour program. You can choose a weekly or biweekly pace. In addition, you will receive 30 days of post-program email and phone support.
Land the Job You Really Want, the above three programs offered as a package, is a 12-hour program. Again, you can choose a weekly or biweekly pace. In addition, you will receive 30 days of post-program email and phone support.
My Best Match Career takes approximately 6-12 months to complete. This life-altering program requires a lot of thought and consideration, and also the most homework, so it’s best to never rush it.
Hourly Coaching is not a program, but rather a no-commitment approach to coaching on an as-needed basis. Most clients like to purchase a block of two or three hours at a time, then just use them up as they need to.
The most convenient way to schedule appointments is through the Online Scheduler. You can also use it to set up a free, no-obligation call.
No problem! We all need to cancel an appointment at some time or another. It’s quick and easy.
Every time you make an appointment, you’ll receive a confirmation email containing two links. One is for canceling, the other is for rescheduling. Just click on the corresponding link whenever your schedule changes.
As a courtesy, please give me 24-hour notice whenever possible.
Homework varies from program to program, and from week to week. As we end each session, we’ll decide the size of your next assignment together. This way, we can flex around your other obligations as well.
To get the most out of your program, it’s best to make a weekly date with yourself to do the weekly assignment. Plan on about 2 hours per week to start. We can then adjust up or down from there.
Clients enjoy and get the most out of their coaching sessions when they sustain a weekly or biweekly meeting schedule. In other words, let’s adjust homework around how often we meet rather than rescheduling meetings around whether you’ve completed the latest homework assignment or not.
If you’re unable to finish homework before our next planned meeting, I’ll most likely suggest we meet anyway. This is especially true when we still need to go over other, related subjects.
But some homework assignments are critical path. We just can’t move forward without them. If this occurs, we’ll just postpone our meeting until you’ve had a chance to do the homework.
If you become unable to complete a program, we can just put it on hold for a while. You can let me know when you’re ready to pick it up again. Or, we can agree that I’ll check back with you after a certain amount of time.
I guarantee your satisfaction 100% and this is very important to me. If you decide a program isn’t working for you, you have several options. You can:
- Redirect the unused balance to another program or to Hourly Coaching.
- Put the program on hold until a better time.
- Request a refund of the unused portion.
The best way to continue to learn is through Hourly Coaching. This way, you get to set the agenda for each call.
For example, do you want to learn how to ask for a raise? Or do you need advice on dealing with a difficult co-worker or boss? Often, clients seek outside advice on whether a job change is the right career move or not. Or how to navigate an ethical or political situation. Clients often use Hourly Coaching for targeted learning, like how to write a cover letter.
Hourly Coaching is a great way to continue to learn when you want to choose the topic.
Both new clients and established clients can sign up for Hourly Coaching. The idea behind it is anyone who needs outside advice can have it on demand.
Yes! How you handle a challenging situation at work can have long-term impact on your reputation, your job and even your career. So, it’s always best to seek the advice of an experienced, unbiased, outside coach. As a result, you’ll see your choices and probable outcomes objectively.
Yes! Hourly Coaching is the way to brush up on your skills just before an important interview. Additional interview practice boosts your confidence and poise as well.
Sometimes it makes sense. Programs are a better choice if your needs match a program. You will pay less money this way because I discount programs.
But if don’t need to learn all of the content of a program, then Hourly Coaching is a smarter choice. This way, you pay only for the learning you need.
Easy! Just go to the Online Scheduler page. There, you can access the scheduler to make your appointment and also read instructions for payment.
Yes. The minimum purchase is one hour, but you can use the time in 30-minute increments. In other words, you can schedule a one-hour session, or two 30-minute sessions. Remaining time never expires.
If you have time left over, you have two choices. You can either bank the balance for the next time, or you can request a refund of the unused portion.
I use Venmo for all transactions, whether you make a single, up-front payment or choose a monthly payment plan.
While I love coaching, what gets me up in the morning is giving back to the next generation. I recognize that many of you are on tight budgets as you launch your careers. So, this is why I offer interest-free payment plans.
Payment plans are a pay-as-you-go service. They allow you to spread out the cost of services over the period of time that you are receiving them. I offer interest-free payment plans for all programs over $500.
So, if you think you’ll need a payment plan, I encourage you to schedule a free, no obligation consultation. This way, we can discuss your unique situation and work out a plan you’re comfortable with.
I guarantee your satisfaction 100%, without exception. This is very important to me. And so, my cancellation policy is very simple. If you would like to cancel the program, you can either receive a credit of the unused portion towards another service or I can send you a prompt refund.
Yes, I discount multiple programs! In fact, the more programs you complete and the more friends you refer, the greater your discount.
For example, whenever you complete a program, it entitles you to $50 off the next one you enroll in.
I offer an even steeper discount when you purchase all three Interview Coaching programs at the same time. Check out the program Land the Job You Really Want under the Interview Coaching tab.
And last, if you refer a friend, you’ll receive 20% off your next purchase.
Yes! Because referrals are the greatest compliment, I want to show my gratitude. When you refer a friend, you will receive 20% off your next purchase.
Unfortunately, no. It’s not possible to share costs with a friend at this time.
However, if you’re concerned about program costs, there is usually a way through. I encourage you to schedule a free, no-obligation consultation. I offer very flexible, interest-free payment plans. There may be one just right for you.
